Job Description:

Under supervision of the Principal Investigator, the AlertCA Assistant Instrument Development Technician will assist in preparation of University owned equipment for fire cameras. This includes: cleaning, inspecting, lubricating, and assembling mechanical systems; assemble, inspect, and test electronic systems. In addition, they will assist in recovering data from field tests and operational deployments of instruments as well as assist in organizing fire camera support gear. The incumbent will take field trips to make adjustments to fire cameras, as necessary. Will also clean, repair and perform general maintenance of equipment, tools, and fire camera instrumentation.

Requirements:

  • Environmental field experience such as geological, environmental, or anthropological field data collection or similar field experience
  • Ability to perform diagnostics of problematic fire camera equipment and perform repairs in the field
  • General understanding of fire camera installation, setup, adjustment and operation
  • Demonstrated ability to perform field work assignments under extreme weather conditions including desert, tropical and arctic climates
  • Demonstrated ability to clean, inspect, lubricate, assemble and test mechanical systems
  • Graduation from high school or General Education Diploma and two years of technical and craft experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must be able to move heavy instruments, equipment and supplies
  • Ability to drive a car and truck, including the ability to operate 4-wheel drive vehicle with manual transmission. Demonstrated safe driving skills
  • Ability to obtain tower climber certification
  • Ability to work safely in a team environment with good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work in a diverse group and to communicate clearly and effectively
