Pink Tile Education is supporting a well-established secondary school in the Brighton area in their search for an ambitious and dedicated Assistant Head of Science to join their team in September. This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated Science specialist who is either looking to take their first step into middle leadership or is already an experienced leader seeking a fresh challenge. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the continued development of the Science department, helping to drive high standards of teaching, learning, achievement, and student engagement across the faculty.
Job Responsibility
Support the strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the Science department
Lead by example through the delivery of high-quality Science lessons across KS3–KS5
Work alongside the Head of Science to raise attainment and progress across all key stages
Support curriculum development, ensuring schemes of work remain engaging, ambitious, and aligned with national expectations
Monitor student progress and implement intervention strategies where required
Contribute to departmental self-evaluation and improvement planning
Support and mentor colleagues, including ECTs and trainee teachers
Promote high standards of teaching, learning, behaviour, and achievement throughout the department
Analyse performance data to inform planning and departmental priorities
Lead on designated areas of responsibility within the Science faculty
Work collaboratively with senior leaders and wider school staff to contribute to whole-school improvement initiatives
Uphold safeguarding procedures and school policies at all times
Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification
A passionate and effective Science teacher with experience teaching across KS3–KS5
Ready to take the next step into middle leadership, or an existing departmental leader seeking a new challenge
Strong subject knowledge and a commitment to delivering high-quality Science education
A desire to contribute to curriculum development and departmental improvement
Ability to inspire, motivate, and support students to achieve their full potential
Strong communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills
Commitment to collaboration, professional development, and continuous improvement
Ability to build positive working relationships with colleagues, students, and families
Must hold an enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to obtain one
