The Assistant General Manager (AGM) plays a critical leadership role in the successful opening and ongoing operation of a newly constructed, waterfront Residence Inn at historic Patriot’s Point. Reporting directly to the General Manager, the AGM supports all aspects of hotel operations, financial performance, guest satisfaction, and team leadership. This role requires a hands-on hospitality professional with strong Marriott brand knowledge, operational discipline, and a passion for service excellence. The AGM will be deeply involved in pre-opening activities, including hiring, training, brand compliance, and systems implementation, and will serve as the acting leader of the hotel in the General Manager’s absence.
Job Responsibility:
Support daily hotel operations across all departments including Front Office, Housekeeping, Maintenance, Food & Beverage, and Sales
Ensure consistent delivery of Marriott brand standards and Bennett Hospitality service expectations
Monitor guest feedback and implement corrective action plans
Resolve guest concerns professionally and proactively
Serve as Manager on Duty as scheduled
Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and training during pre-opening and beyond
Foster a positive, accountable, guest-focused culture
Coach and support department leaders and hourly team members
Support performance management and disciplinary processes in partnership with HR
Assist with budgeting, forecasting, labor management, and cost controls
Monitor payroll and productivity to align with financial targets
Support inventory controls and vendor relationships
Ensure compliance with company policies and employment laws
Support occupancy, extended-stay business, and local accounts
Represent the hotel within the Patriot’s Point and Charleston communities
Support local partnerships and group business
Participate in pre-opening timelines, inspections, and brand readiness reviews
Ensure Marriott systems and SOPs are implemented
Assist with opening audits and transition to stabilized operations
Requirements:
3–5 years of hotel management experience, preferably Marriott or branded hotels
Prior Assistant General Manager or Operations Manager experience preferred
Pre-opening experience a plus
Strong operational knowledge across departments
Proficiency with Marriott systems preferred
Flexible schedule including weekends and holidays
Ability to stand and walk throughout the property for extended periods
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
