Job Description:

As Assistant General Counsel, you will be the first hire helping to lead and build a new department within Abridge Legal responsible for handling the company’s corporate matters. This includes a wide spectrum of work embracing financings, major transactions, corporate governance, intellectual property, and employment, among the other needs of a fast-growing technology startup. You will report to the General Counsel. This is an opportunity to be at the forefront of AI in healthcare.

Job Responsibility:

  • Work closely with our CFO and CEO to navigate corporate governance matters, financings and investor relations
  • Support the General Counsel and executive team on any corporate development activity
  • Help to develop Abridge’s IP strategy and manage its intellectual property portfolio
  • Serve as the main legal point person on human resource and employment matters
  • Work cross-functionally within the Legal team, coordinating with our Commercial, Product, and Public Policy functions to achieve the best results
  • Coordinate and manage outside counsel in tackling these projects, presenting to the Board of Directors as needed on the same

Requirements:

  • Passion for Abridge’s mission and the energy and drive to support a fast-moving product and operational teams
  • 10+ years of legal experience
  • 5+ years in a broad spectrum of corporate work for fast-growing startups including M&A, capital markets, IP portfolio, corporate governance, and employment
  • Proven ability to communicate and translate complex regulatory and legal concepts into clear, practical guidance for non-legal counterparts and colleagues
  • Comfort and confidence with juggling a high volume of projects, tight timelines, and competing priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise business judgement
  • interest in joining a small team that prioritizes autonomy and trust
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally, particularly with executive teams, corporate boards, technical teams, and commercial teams, building relationships and earning their confidence
  • Creativity in solving and navigating novel legal matters
  • experience in crafting new approaches to meet the needs of a rapidly-moving enterprise in a novel industry

Nice to have:

  • Strong preference for prior in-house, government, or law firm experience focused on healthcare or healthcare technology
