Job Description:

The Assistant Fiscal Officer supports the Fiscal Officer in managing the financial operations of the Wyoming Legislative Service Office. This position assists the fiscal officer with budgeting, accounting, financial reporting, and compliance to ensure the efficient and accurate use of public funds in support of the Wyoming Legislature. The position also assists with other administrative functions within the LSO.

Job Responsibility:

  • Assist in preparing and monitoring the agency’s operating budget
  • Process accounts payable, accounts receivable, and journal entries
  • Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with state laws and policies
  • Assist with payroll coordination and benefit-related financial tracking
  • Prepare financial reports, reconciliations, and analysis
  • Support year-end close-out and audit activities
  • Monitor expenditures and assist with forecasting and budget planning
  • Ensure compliance with state statutes, administrative rules, and internal controls
  • Provide financial support and guidance to internal staff as needed
  • Assist the LSO Director with assigned tasks
  • Serve as a point of contact for the public
  • Provide administrative support for the LSO staff and legislators
  • Assist in planning and coordinating administrative support services during the legislative session
  • Must remain flexible and well-rounded to perform other duties, as assigned

Requirements:

  • Experience in accounting, budgeting, or financial administration
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, business, or related field
  • Experience in state government or public sector finance
  • Familiarity with governmental accounting standards
  • Experience working with budget preparation and legislative or public agencies
