Job Description:

The city is seeking a City Engineer / Assistant Director of Public Works to lead engineering operations, including infrastructure design, transportation systems, utilities, and construction management. This position supports the DPW Director in overseeing projects and ensuring alignment with municipal priorities. This role offers the opportunity to shape critical infrastructure and public services in a dynamic municipal environment.

Job Responsibility:

  • Lead engineering operations, including infrastructure design, transportation systems, utilities, and construction management
  • Support the DPW Director in overseeing projects and ensuring alignment with municipal priorities
  • Manage public works projects from design through construction
  • Prepare plans and specifications
  • Oversee bidding and contractor compliance
  • Conduct site inspections
  • Support development review
  • Maintain infrastructure records
  • Provide technical guidance for water, sewer, and stormwater systems
  • Collaborate with public officials, contractors, and residents, ensuring projects meet regulatory standards, timelines, and budgets
  • Serve as Acting DPW Director as needed

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (or related field) and five-plus years of experience required
  • FE certification required
  • PE license preferred
  • Supervisory experience and knowledge of municipal regulations, GIS, and stormwater compliance are highly desirable
