The Office of Student Accountability, Growth & Education (SAGE) leads and manages the UC San Diego non-academic student conduct, student compliance, and restorative justice programs. SAGE collaborates with the undergraduate Colleges, residential areas, Student Life, graduate and professional schools, faculty and academic departments, Intercollegiate Athletics, and greater University community with regard to student conduct and student welfare matters. SAGE is responsible for the development, revision, and coordination of student conduct related policies, including the UC Policy on Student Conduct and Discipline, UC San Diego Student Conduct Procedures, Medical Amnesty Program, and University Alcohol Policy. SAGE facilitates ongoing comprehensive student conduct, student compliance, and restorative justice-related training for staff, students, and faculty. SAGE also provides restorative practices as a complement to the formal student conduct process. Additionally, the office develops and maintains comprehensive statistical and narrative data regarding all aspects of the key processes and procedures and engages in regular assessment of departmental processes.
Job Responsibility:
The Assistant Director, Student Compliance is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the UC San Diego student compliance program
Manages and oversees processes, student employment training compliance for Student Affairs departments, and mandatory incoming student training compliance
Provides consultation, advice, and assistance to the campus community and acts as a lead advisor to the Director – Student Affairs Policy, Standards, and Conduct
Serves as a University Student Conduct Officer, handling complex cases, interim suspension hearings, and student organization investigations
Serve as expert campus resource for ADVOCATE database and departmental representative to ADVOCATE Steering Committee
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
Thorough knowledge of advising and counseling techniques
In-depth skills in service orientation, active listening, and critical thinking
Ability to maintain composure, diffuse client anger and anxiety with tact and diplomacy, and be able to follow up consistently on all assignments and pending matters
Strong knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences
Proficient skill utilizing student conduct databases, student information systems, and Microsoft Office applications
Thorough knowledge of Student Affairs / Student Life specialization
Strong understanding of the developmental and educational context in which student conduct, student compliance, and restorative justice programs are administered and managed
Strong knowledge and awareness of the interrelationship of student conduct-related policy and governmental laws with student development
Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance
Highly skill in promoting positive working relationships with constituents and ability to independently use sound judgment and discretion when interacting with individuals from the campus and the community
Abilities in project management, problem identification and reasoning skills
