Under the direction of the Associate Director of Upper Division Housing, the Assistant Director of Residence Life (ADRL) coordinates significant portions of the residential life program. The ADRL plays an integral role in implementing the residential life program as it relates to creating a safe and secure living and learning environment, which supports students’ personal, educational, social and professional development and is supportive of the educational vision. The ADRL coordinates the Resident Advisor program, which includes the selection process, comprehensive trainings and providing work direction through weekly meetings and annual evaluations. The ADRL advises Resident Advisors and residential programming boards to implement comprehensive programming models that reflect the UC San Diego Principles of Community and the educational philosophy. The ADRL assists in managing a portion of the residential programming budget. The ADRL collaborates with college and university officials and departments in the management of student crises. In addition, the ADRL provides counseling and conflict mediation, enforcement of university policy and resolves conduct issues. The ADRL position requires well developed levels of, and demonstrated education and experience in, working independently, implementing organizational goals, understanding college student development, making decisions that impact individual residents, office administration and crisis response. Using knowledge and skills as a seasoned, experienced Student Services professional, performs the full range of duties and responsibilities within a Student Life specialization. Assesses situations and determines appropriate action or referral. Works independently under general supervision to provide information and interpretation of complex policies, procedures and regulations. Identifies and responds to student needs for programs, services, and crisis intervention.

Requirements:
Thorough knowledge of student advising and counseling techniques
Thorough knowledge of Student Affairs / Student Life specialization
Skilled in managing a broad range of student services within the residential life community and knowledgeable of university services and resources
Strong knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences
Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance
Abilities in project management, problem identification and reasoning skills
Ability to develop original ideas to solve problems
Ability to apply professional approaches to solve problems and organize programs and projects
