The City of Hollywood is seeking an Assistant Director of Public Works who is results driven with proven leadership skills and a strong commitment to team environment and organizational dynamics. Under the direction of the Director of Public Works, the Assistant Director performs advanced professional, supervisory, and administrative work across multiple divisions of the Public Works Department. This position requires extensive local government experience, with particular emphasis on Public Works operations, management, and service delivery.
Job Responsibility:
Supervises, plans, organizes, directs, and coordinates activities of several Public Works divisions
Oversees departmental financial management, including budget preparation, expenditure monitoring, and compliance with City fiscal policies
Provides procurement and vendor management oversight
Prepares and reviews agenda items, memos, and supporting documentation for Commission meetings
Coordinates administrative tasks such as grant tracking, capital project reporting, and interdepartmental collaboration
Manages departmental projects from planning through implementation
Responsible for collection and disposal of recycling for the City’s Solid Waste program
Develops and administers a variety of contracts
Oversight and management of thousands of service requests
Management of citywide fleet services inventory
Maintenance oversight of City’s Seven Mile Beach and Broadwalk
Performs and oversees inspections of public beaches
Establishes goals and objectives for the division
Assists in the preparation and monitoring of the departmental budget
Supervises, assists, trains and directs various personnel
Recommends hiring, discipline, and promotions
Establishes operating procedures, training programs and safety processes for divisions
May respond to emergency call outs
May serve as acting Public Works Director
Ensure best management practices in solid waste, fleet management and environmental programs
Interpretation and application of City policies, procedures, and municipal ordinances
Assists in Emergency Operations on behalf of Public Works
Reviews, interprets, and recommends requests from County, State and Federal regulations
Testifies as an expert witness in lawsuits against the City
Responds to inquiries and handles citizen complaints
Composes, edits, and prepares correspondence, invoices, statements, reports, and other departmental documents
Designs and maintains specialized reports, coordinates special projects or committees
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field
Five (5) years of related local government experience, preferably in Public Works, including solid waste and fleet management
Experience with computers and standard software applications such as Word and EXCEL
Excellent presentation skills
Valid Driver’s License with proof of automobile insurance
