Job Description

The Assistant Director of Engineering plays a key leadership role within the Engineering team and works closely alongside the Director of Engineering to support the smooth and efficient operation of the hotel. This position oversees a team of Engineering and Maintenance professionals responsible for maintaining all interior and exterior facilities to the highest standards, ensuring a safe, well maintained and comfortable environment for both guests and employees. This role requires strong technical knowledge, excellent people management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced luxury hospitality environment.

Job Responsibility

  • Support the Director of Engineering in the overall management of the Engineering department and deputise in their absence
  • Lead, coach and develop a diverse Engineering and Maintenance team
  • Oversee all engineering operations across the property, including plumbing, refrigeration, heating and cooling, painting, carpentry, structural works, recycling processes and electrical systems
  • Ensure all preventative maintenance programmes are effectively implemented and continuously improved
  • Manage engineering projects, refurbishments and capital works, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety and environmental regulations and company standards
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to support operational needs and guest satisfaction
  • Maintain accurate records, reports and maintenance logs in line with company requirements

Requirements

  • Proven leadership experience within an engineering environment in luxury hospitality
  • Strong understanding of the engineering needs of a hotel operation
  • Strong project management experience with the ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to lead and motivate a diverse team
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and adapt to the changing needs of the operation
  • A solid work ethic, strong business acumen and a genuine passion for service excellence
  • Relevant technical qualifications or certifications are preferred
