The Assistant Director of Engineering plays a key leadership role within the Engineering team and works closely alongside the Director of Engineering to support the smooth and efficient operation of the hotel. This position oversees a team of Engineering and Maintenance professionals responsible for maintaining all interior and exterior facilities to the highest standards, ensuring a safe, well-maintained and comfortable environment for both guests and employees. This role requires strong technical knowledge, excellent people management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced luxury hospitality environment.
Job Responsibility:
Support the Director of Engineering in the overall management of the Engineering department and deputise in their absence
Lead, coach and develop a diverse Engineering and Maintenance team
Oversee all engineering operations across the property, including plumbing, refrigeration, heating and cooling, painting, carpentry, structural works, recycling processes and electrical systems
Ensure all preventative maintenance programmes are effectively implemented and continuously improved
Manage engineering projects, refurbishments and capital works, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget
Ensure compliance with all health, safety and environmental regulations and company standards
Work collaboratively with other departments to support operational needs and guest satisfaction
Maintain accurate records, reports and maintenance logs in line with company requirements
Requirements:
Proven leadership experience within an engineering environment in luxury hospitality
Strong understanding of the engineering needs of a hotel operation
Strong project management experience with the ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to lead and motivate a diverse team
Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and adapt to the changing needs of the operation
A solid work ethic, strong business acumen and a genuine passion for service excellence
Relevant technical qualifications or certifications are preferred
