The Assistant Director of Marketing and Outreach, creates and implements a comprehensive marketing, outreach, and special events initiative program to support all programs, services, and activities within the Recreation and Wellness department at ODU. The Assistant Director oversees the strategic development of campus and community outreach campaigns and leads the planning and execution of large-scale signature events. This position is responsible for hiring, training, and supervising student employees. The Assistant Director maintains current certifications and continuing education related to marketing and outreach and assists in long-range planning and implementation of departmental programming as it relates to the overall mission within the division. Given the nature of the positions in Student & Campus Life (SCL) that provide support to student services and/or student-centered programs, the employee occupying this position may be required to work during a university closing. There may be occasions where the employee will be asked to work during university closings as directed by his or her supervisor. These instances may include working from a remote location (i.e. telework, etc.).

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Enterprise Marketing, HTML, InDesign, Adobe Design Suite, CRM platforms, and a willingness to learn new programs.
Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed to support special events and late-night outreach.
First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications required (or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment).
Master's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Event Management, Higher Education Administration, or a related field required
OR a Bachelor's degree in the areas previously indicated along with professional experience equivalent to a Master's degree.
Some experience planning, organizing, and executing medium-to-large scale events or community outreach campaigns.
Some experience in designing and maintaining websites and social media platforms.
Considerable experience in marketing to and reaching targeted demographics (specifically young adults/college students).
Some experience in researching and applying best practices and trends regarding branding, student engagement, and incentivizing participation.
Basic experience critiquing designs, multimedia concepts, and event layouts.
Nice to have
Some experience working in a collegiate recreation, student affairs, or higher education setting.
Experience supervising student staff or volunteers in an event or marketing capacity.
