Job Description

The Assistant Director for Assessment & Strategic Planning evaluates the effectiveness of departmental programs, services, and operations through comprehensive assessment, data analysis, and strategic reporting. This role supports data-informed decision-making by developing dashboards, reports, and evaluation tools that measure student engagement, learning outcomes, and post-graduate success. The Assistant Director plans, facilitates, and evaluates assessment strategies and data systems that align with departmental, divisional, and institutional goals. The Assistant Director plays a central role in a network of relationships that connects departmental staff, institutional research and assessment partners, and campus technology units to advance data integrity, reporting capabilities, and strategic initiatives. Through collaboration and consultation, this position ensures the effective use of data systems, including different career management platforms, to support student, employer, faculty/staff, and alumni engagement. The Assistant Director supports major departmental initiatives such as annual reporting, career fairs, and strategic planning efforts and serves as a key resource for data and assessment practices. This individual reports to the Director for Employer Partnerships and Assessment and works as part of the Employer Relations team within the Center for Career and Leadership Development.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Business Administration, Public Administration or a related field of study. Or bachelor’s degree in Higher Education, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Business Administration, Public Administration or a related field of study with equivalent work experience to a master’s degree
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and network environments
  • word processing, spreadsheets, database software, electronic mail, internet use, and presentation software
  • Written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present data to non-technical audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively meet deadlines and to provide outstanding customer service to varied stakeholder groups
  • Experience in assessment, data analysis, or institutional research within higher education or a related setting
  • Demonstrated experience developing reports, dashboards, and data visualizations using Business Intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, or similar)
  • Experience analyzing complex datasets and translating findings into actionable insights
  • Experience administering and analyzing surveys and other assessment tools

  • Some experience working in a career center setting within higher education
  • Prior experience working with Handshake or other university career services management system
