In short, the Assistant Director, Data Science role sits at the intersection of analytics, strategy, and execution, leading high-impact Inventory and Pricing initiatives that directly influence how DriveTime buys, prices, and reconditions vehicles. You’ll own model strategy end-to-end—turning complex business problems into scalable, production-ready solutions—while partnering closely with Product, Operations, Engineering, and Analytics to drive measurable results. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can balance technical depth with real-world business judgment and develop strong data science talent along the way.

Job Responsibility:

  • Leading data science strategy and execution across Inventory and Pricing initiatives, with a focus on measurable business impact
  • Owning the development, validation, deployment, and ongoing optimization of models supporting key use cases such as Cosmetic Recon, Pricing Turn, and Outlier Recon detection
  • Designing and operationalizing model monitoring frameworks to ensure performance, reliability, and long-term scalability
  • Translating ambiguous business problems into clear modeling approaches and actionable insights
  • Partnering cross-functionally with Product, Operations, Engineering, and Analytics to align model solutions with business priorities
  • Leveraging AI-enabled and automation-driven workflows to improve data science productivity and decision quality
  • Coaching, mentoring, and developing data science talent while setting a high technical and execution standard
  • Establishing durable ownership and leadership for Inventory-focused data science capabilities

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, or advanced analytics
  • 2+ years of experience leading, managing, or mentoring technical analytics or data science talent
  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Economics, Finance, Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, or equivalent practical experience
  • Advanced proficiency in Snowflake, SQL, and Python
  • Strong experience building, deploying, and improving production-relevant models
