We are looking for an Assistant Controller to support financial operations and help strengthen accounting processes in Lancaster, New York. This role partners closely with leadership and operational teams to maintain accurate reporting, improve cost visibility, and ensure compliance across core accounting activities. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical judgment, a hands-on approach to month-end close, and the ability to guide improvements in a fast-moving environment.
Job Responsibility
Guide daily accounting activities in partnership with leadership, helping the team deliver accurate and timely financial results
Evaluate existing workflows, recommend practical process enhancements, and drive implementation of more efficient accounting practices
Review labor, overhead, and purchasing-related variances to identify trends, explain performance drivers, and support corrective action
Collaborate with operations personnel to strengthen inventory accuracy and refine costing methodologies
Coordinate responses for audit requests and help maintain adherence to internal control standards and compliance requirements
Oversee the month-end close cycle, ensuring deadlines are met and financial records are complete and reliable
Examine general ledger activity, investigate unusual entries, and work with stakeholders to resolve discrepancies
Administer fixed asset accounting, including asset setup, tracking, depreciation reporting, and record maintenance
Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, tax-related filings, and travel and entertainment payment processes to support overall financial accuracy
Requirements
Demonstrated experience managing month-end close activities within a fast-paced accounting environment
Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting principles
Ability to analyze financial statement fluctuations, cost variances, and transactional inconsistencies with a high level of accuracy
Experience supporting financial statement audits and responding effectively to auditor documentation requests
Familiarity with internal controls and compliance practices, including exposure to DCAA requirements
Working knowledge of fixed asset accounting, depreciation tracking, and related reporting
Experience with sales and use tax processes and other recurring accounting compliance obligations
