Job Description:

We’re currently partnering with a rapidly growing manufacturing company in Cornwall, Ontario to find a talented and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join their finance team. Reporting directly to the Controller, the Assistant Controller will play a critical role in managing financial reporting, cost and inventory accounting, budgeting, and internal controls. The successful candidate will help ensure the accuracy of financial data, support decision-making, and contribute to continuous improvement within the finance function.

Job Responsibility:

Lead and support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements in accordance with ASPE
Develop, implement, and monitor internal controls and accounting policies
Oversee inventory and cost accounting activities, including standard costing
Analyze manufacturing cost variances (materials, labor, overhead) and deliver insights to leadership and operations
Review and approve vendor payments in alignment with company procedures
Assist with external audits, including audit prep and coordination with auditors
Ensure compliance with tax filings (GST/HST, VAT, and other regulatory reporting)
Identify and execute opportunities for process improvements and automation
Mentor junior accounting team members, providing coaching and performance feedback

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
CPA designation or actively pursuing CPA is a strong asset
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a manufacturing environment
Solid understanding of ASPE, cost accounting, and inventory management
Proficiency with ERP systems such as AS400 or Microsoft 365 Business Central
Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis)
Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills
