Job Description:

We’re currently partnering with a rapidly growing manufacturing company in Cornwall, Ontario to find a talented and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join their finance team. This is an exciting opportunity for a finance professional who enjoys rolling up their sleeves, working cross-functionally, and making a real impact on a company’s financial operations and strategy. ... Reporting directly to the Controller, the Assistant Controller will play a critical role in managing financial reporting, cost and inventory accounting, budgeting, and internal controls. The successful candidate will help ensure the accuracy of financial data, support decision-making, and contribute to continuous improvement within the finance function.

Job Responsibility:

  • Lead and support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements in accordance with ASPE
  • Develop, implement, and monitor internal controls and accounting policies
  • Oversee inventory and cost accounting activities, including standard costing
  • Analyze manufacturing cost variances (materials, labor, overhead) and deliver insights to leadership and operations
  • Review and approve vendor payments in alignment with company procedures
  • Assist with external audits, including audit prep and coordination with auditors
  • Ensure compliance with tax filings (GST/HST, VAT, and other regulatory reporting)
  • Identify and execute opportunities for process improvements and automation
  • Mentor junior accounting team members, providing coaching and performance feedback

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA designation or actively pursuing CPA is a strong asset
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a manufacturing environment
  • Solid understanding of ASPE, cost accounting, and inventory management
  • Proficiency with ERP systems such as AS400 or Microsoft 365 Business Central
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis)
  • Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills
