We are looking for an experienced Assistant Controller to join our team in Irvine, California. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented individual who excels in managing complex financial operations for multi-property portfolios. You will play a pivotal role in overseeing financial reporting, property accounting, and compliance while contributing to budgeting, forecasting, and process improvements.
Job Responsibility:
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for multiple shopping centers
Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and consolidations
Oversee property tax, real estate tax, and insurance reconciliations to ensure accuracy and compliance
Review tenant billings, rent rolls, percentage rents, and lease abstracts for consistency and precision
Lead the preparation of annual property budgets and quarterly forecasts, providing variance analyses to ownership
Monitor property-level cash flow and reserve balances, ensuring proper oversight of accounts payable and receivable
Coordinate property and entity-level audit schedules and documentation to meet compliance requirements
Ensure adherence to loan covenants, tax regulations, and audit standards
Enhance accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to improve efficiency and accuracy
Mentor and manage accounting staff to support team development and performance
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
Minimum of 7 years of accounting experience, with significant exposure to retail real estate or shopping centers
Proven track record in managing multi-property portfolios
Strong knowledge of real estate accounting standards and practices
Proficiency with property management and accounting systems, such as Yardi or similar platforms
Advanced Excel skills for financial modeling and data analysis
Exceptional leadership, organizational, analytical, and communication abilities
