We are looking for an experienced Assistant Controller to join our team in the South Suburbs of Chicago, IL . This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in financial management, construction accounting, and team leadership. The Assistant Controller will play a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy of financial processes and compliance with industry standards while supporting the organization’s growth.
Job Responsibility:
Oversee month-end close procedures to ensure accurate and timely reporting
Manage general ledger activities and prepare detailed financial statements and supporting schedules
Lead a team of administrative staff, including clerks and accountants, providing guidance and support
Coordinate accounts payable/receivable processes and oversee construction billing submissions using Textura
Process and document Time and Material (T& M) projects with precision and attention to detail
Handle compliance and reporting documentation through platforms such as B2GNow and ensure timely submission
Review job cost data and contribute to the preparation of monthly Work in Progress (WIP) reports
Serve as the point of contact for construction-specific payroll matters, reconciling quarterly payroll reports and preparing returns
Establish and maintain efficient systems and controls to verify the integrity of all financial processes and data
Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with vendors, subcontractors, financial institutions, and internal teams
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required
Construction industry experience required
Minimum of three years of recent supervisory or management experience
Proficiency in construction accounting software, such as Computer Ease or Viewpoint Vista
Familiarity with construction billing platforms (e.g., Textura) and compliance portals like B2GNow
Strong knowledge of prevailing wage compliance, certified payroll, and union reporting requirements
Expertise in job costing principles and Work in Progress (WIP) reporting
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and data entry
Strong leadership, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy
