We are looking for an Assistant Controller to provide accounting leadership and operational support for a Long-term Contract assignment based in New York, New York. This role will help maintain accurate financial operations by guiding payables activity, reviewing expense approvals, and supporting sound cash management practices. The position also contributes to budgeting oversight and revenue accounting across both sales and grant-funded activity, with occasional onsite presence as needed.
Job Responsibility:
Direct day-to-day accounts payable and expense review activities to ensure timely processing and proper authorization
Verify general ledger classifications for accuracy and consistency across transactions and reporting periods
Track weekly cash flow activity, identify trends, and share insights that support short-term financial planning
Compare budget performance month over month, investigate variances, and highlight key findings for leadership review
Support month-end close procedures by preparing and reviewing reconciliations, journal entries, and related financial records
Assist with financial reporting deliverables and provide documentation needed for audit readiness and compliance efforts
Manage accounting treatment for revenue generated through product sales as well as grant funding sources
Contribute to inventory-related accounting analysis when applicable to improve visibility into balances and cost activity
Requirements:
Demonstrated experience in accounting leadership or senior accounting support within a controller or assistant controller capacity
Strong knowledge of month-end close processes, general ledger maintenance, and financial reporting practices
Hands-on experience overseeing accounts payable, expense controls, and approval workflows
Ability to analyze cash flow and budget performance and communicate meaningful financial observations
Familiarity with financial statement audits and supporting documentation requirements
Working knowledge of QuickBooks and comfort navigating day-to-day accounting activity within the system
Nice to have:
Exposure to DCAA-related environments or compliance expectations is preferred
Inventory accounting experience is a plus
