We are partnering with a well‑established, privately held organization near Annapolis, Maryland to identify a hands‑on Assistant Controller. This is an on‑site role supporting a complex accounting environment with multiple revenue streams, fund/account structures, and operational interdependencies. The position reports directly to senior finance leadership and plays a key role in day‑to‑day accounting execution, month‑end close, and financial oversight. This opportunity is ideal for a detail‑oriented accounting professional who enjoys technical depth, ownership of processes, and working closely with operations in a non‑corporate setting.
Job Responsibility:
Manage and execute the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process
Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
Oversee general ledger activity across multiple entities and/or funds
Assist with preparation of internal and external financial statements
Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
Ensure GAAP compliance and strong internal controls
Partner with external auditors and support audit requests
Assist with cash management, fixed assets, and complex accruals
Identify and implement process improvements within the accounting function
Serve as a key backup to the Controller and mentor junior accounting staff as needed
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
5–8+ years of progressive accounting experience
Experience in complex accounting environments (multi‑entity, fund accounting, or highly transactional operations preferred)
Strong working knowledge of GAAP
Advanced Excel skills
experience with accounting systems/ERPs
CPA or CPA‑track strongly preferred
Comfortable working in a fully on‑site environment
Detail‑driven, organized, and comfortable operating with minimal structure
