Job Description:

This role is central to the efficient management of accounting processes for our property portfolio. The Assistant Controller will be expected to handle a wide range of tasks including overseeing the accounting for a portfolio of properties, conducting month-end/year-end closing functions, and managing relationships with outsourced accounting providers.

Job Responsibility:

  • Take charge of the accounting processes for a selection of properties
  • Handle closing functions at the end of the month/year, including balance sheet reconciliations and calculation of property and construction management fees
  • Ensure all accounting transactions align with fair value GAAP
  • Oversee the accounting for property acquisitions and dispositions
  • Prepare tax packages for external tax accountants and review the same
  • Update personnel assignment schedules regularly
  • Prepare and review periodic municipal tax filings
  • Assist in coordinating audits and year-end accounting, including drafting footnote disclosures for property-level properties
  • Prepare and review periodic lender compliance packages
  • Update accounting policies and procedures documentation and assist in identifying internal control issues
  • Supervise relationships with outsourced accounting providers
  • oversee third party operators
  • Assist in the annual property-level budgeting process and provide oversight to periodic monitoring
  • Mentor, train, and supervise existing and new team members
  • Collaborate with other Accounting Teams, Property Management, Construction Management, and Investment Teams
  • Develop and manage training programs for internal and external accountants
  • Understand complex accounting transactions and make recommendations for accounting treatment to Property Controllers
  • Identify process efficiencies in partnership with the Property Controllers

Requirements:

  • Proficiency in 3M software tools
  • Extensive experience with Accounting Software Systems
  • Familiarity with ADP - Financial Services
  • Proficiency in Customer Relationship Management (CRM)
  • Experience in using Crystal Reports
  • Knowledge and experience in Accounting Functions
  • Ability to manage Accounts Payable (AP)
  • Experience in managing Accounts Receivable (AR)
  • Proven track record in Auditing
  • Strong understanding of Budget Processes
