Job Description:

Total Plumbing Supplies is a respected independent plumbing and builders’ merchant, proudly serving the South West since 2001. We’re known for quality products and excellent customer service and are part of the Independent Builders Merchant Group (IBMG) — the largest independent merchant group in the South of England. Due to continued growth and success, we have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Branch Manager to join our team at our Total Plumbing Supplies Chard. As Assistant Branch Manager, you’ll support the Branch Manager in the day‑to‑day running of the branch. You’ll help lead and motivate the team, improve customer experience, and drive sales and profitability while ensuring smooth, safe, and efficient branch operations. This is a hands‑on leadership role, combining customer service, sales, people management, and operational responsibility.

Job Responsibility:

  • Supporting customers at the trade counter and over the phone
  • Assisting with loading and general branch support when required
  • Working alongside the Branch Manager on branch development and customer service
  • Supervising and motivating a team of colleagues
  • Supporting and delivering the branch sales plan
  • Managing stock replenishment and maintaining appropriate stock levels
  • Ensuring safe, efficient daily operations and H&S compliance
  • Ensuring the best possible customer experience at all times
  • Providing cover for the Branch Manager when required
  • Carrying out additional duties as required to support the branch

Requirements:

  • Experience in a similar supervisory or management role
  • Strong customer-focused mindset
  • Excellent organisation and administration skills
  • Confident communicator at all levels
  • Strong sales awareness and negotiation skills
  • Ability to build and maintain strong internal and external relationships
  • Approachable, professional, and team-focused leadership style
  • Full drivers licence
  • Must have plumbing sales background
  • Confidence with cold calling & good communication skills
