Job Description:

Old Dominion University (ODU) invites applicants for an Assistant/Associate Professor in the area of AI & Network and Communications Security to begin in Fall 2026. The position is in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) with a joint appointment with the School of Cybersecurity. This is a tenure-track appointment that is part of a multiple-position hiring initiative for Trustworthy AI.

Job Responsibility:

  • Teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels (load of 4 courses/year with reduced load first two years)
  • Actively pursue external research grants
  • Supervise Ph.D. students
  • Participate in interdisciplinary research collaborations
  • Undergraduate research supervision is highly recommended

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent in electrical engineering, computer engineering, electrical and computer engineering, computer science or related discipline
  • Potential for success in teaching, research, and obtaining external research grants
  • For Associate Professor: A successful record in research and externally funded grants
  • Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate clearly with internal and external constituencies
  • For Assistant or Associate Professor: Ability to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary settings
  • A strong research record at the intersection of AI and Network and Communications Cybersecurity, demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications in reputed conferences and journals

Nice to have:

  • For Associate Professor: An academic record that merits a tenured appointment in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
  • For Assistant or Associate Professor: Experience in grant proposal writing
  • Experience in applying AI and machine learning techniques in cybersecurity and AI/ ML security and evidence of interdisciplinary work
