Old Dominion University’s Department of Educational Leadership and Workforce Development in the Darden College of Education & Professional Studies is announcing two positions in community college leadership. We invite applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor position and an assistant or associate professor position in Community College Leadership, beginning July 2025. Applicants should be comfortable teaching in both our Community College Leadership and Workforce Development programs. We invite scholars with a focus on topics related to community colleges with interests in areas such as policy, evaluation, and research methods. Old Dominion University has the Research 1 Classification, indicating “very high research activity,” from the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, placing it among the highest level of research institutions in the United States.
Job Responsibility:
Engage in scholarly activity (e.g., publish in peer-reviewed journals, grant activity)
Teach (hybrid, face-to-face, and online) courses
Develop courses and contribute to program design, development, evaluation, and improvement
Provide service to the program, department, university and profession
Effectively recruit, guide, and advise community college leadership graduate students
Chair and serve on doctoral dissertation committees
Requirements:
An earned doctorate from a regionally accredited university in community college leadership, workforce development, or a closely related field
Doctoral degree in community college leadership, workforce development, or a closely related field
Familiarity with leadership and administration of community and technical colleges
Plan to maintain an established record of scholarly research and publication appropriate for a Research University (very high research activity)
Clear commitment to interdisciplinary and collaboration with faculty in and outside of the institution
Student-centered teaching philosophy and potential for effective instruction
Ability to obtain large funded research as PI or Co-PI
Trained in research methods, including both quantitative and qualitative methods, with the ability to teach and advise dissertations
Nice to have:
Experience teaching both face-to-face and synchronous, distance classes
Experience serving on and leading dissertation committees
Experience with external funding for research and projects
