Job Description

Under the supervision of the Animal Control Officer. Assists with the enforcement of MGL, Statutes and the ordinances of Taunton regarding domestic animal control to assure the safety of the public. This position will cover vacations, holidays and the weekends as needed.

Job Responsibility

  • Assists with the enforcement of MGL, Statutes and the ordinances of Taunton regarding domestic animal control to assure the safety of the public
  • Maintains the animal shelter and cares for animals being held
  • Places the highest priority on the welfare of all animals with regards to sanitation, cleaning, feeding and watering, exercising, expediting medical services, humane euthanasia of animals when necessary
  • Responds to calls concerning injured animals
  • provides and/or obtains emergency medical treatment as needed
  • picks up and disposes of deceased animals in the prescribed area, according to established procedures
  • Transport injured animals to veterinarian or other facilities as directed
  • Responds to call involving injured or sick wildlife in potentially hazardous conditions
  • This position will cover vacations, holidays and the weekends as needed

Requirements

  • Must have a valid Massachusetts Driver’s License
  • Must have a high school diploma and/or equivalent with three full years of paid employment
  • Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs. independently
  • Management skills are required
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with the public in a sympathetic and compassionate manner
