Job Description

Robert Half Permanent Placement is seeking an Assistant Accounting Manager to support financial operations for a commercial HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical contractor in the Cheektowaga / Buffalo area. This role partners with the Accounting Manager on many aspects of Accounting and HR including payroll processing, accounts payable/receivable, general accounting functions, billing, and benefits and leave processes. Starting salary is $60,000 - $70,000 based on experience and includes a comprehensive benefits package. This role is perfect for someone looking to grow into an Accounting Manager role over the next few years!

Job Responsibility

  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
  • Support job cost accounting, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, and project financial analysis
  • Review accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll transactions for accuracy
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
  • Prepare account reconciliations and support external audits and tax filings
  • Monitor compliance with company policies and accounting standards
  • Provide leadership and guidance to accounting staff and serve as a backup to the Accounting Manager
  • Assist with HR functions including benefits/leave, workers comp, HRA plans, and more

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
  • 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in construction, mechanical contracting, HVAC, plumbing, or related industries
  • Knowledge of job costing, project accounting, and WIP schedules
  • Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
