Asset Accountant: Inventory & Fixed Assets

Job Description

The inventory accountant is responsible for the accuracy of inventory records, values and reconciliations. In addition, the accountant will provide backup to the fixed asset desk ensuring the accurate accounting and reporting of capital expenditures, depreciation, spending and analysis.

Job Responsibility

  • Maintain inventory records. Reconcile discrepancies resulting from receiving, pricing and loss
  • Analyze loss reserves
  • Prepare journal entries and assist with the month-end close process
  • Provide inventory reporting to management, the tax department and external auditors
  • Develop and implement inventory procedures and process improvements
  • Manage accurate accounting and reporting of capital expenditures including depreciation, capital spending and analysis
  • Maintain tax, AMT, state and E&P fixed asset ledgers and provide schedules for tax preparation
  • Record fixed asset acquisitions and dispositions in the accounting system
  • Prepare journal entries and assist with the month-end close process. Provide explanations for variances vs budget for assigned expenses
  • Provide capital expenditure and depreciation reporting to management, the tax department and external auditors

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • 2-3 years of relevant work experience desired
  • Ability to consistently perform hands-on-work with minimal supervision in a team-oriented work environment and to demonstrate strong problem-solving capabilities
  • Ability to prioritize a high-volume workload efficiently, work under pressure, and meet deadlines, while maintaining excellent attention to detail
  • Proficiency with MS Excel including the ability to work with and organize large amounts of data using pivot tables, vlookups, formulas, filtering, formatting and other Excel tools
  • Must be a self-starter with strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills along with excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have the ability to work both independently and on a team to complete multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with JD Edwards financial software on an AS400 platform is desired
  • Proficiency in MS Office: Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Standing, walking, lifting (up to 25lbs.) and climbing
