Job Description:

Our client are a well-known local government entity located in the Brisbane CBD. They are currently seeking an Asset Accountant to come in and assist them on a 6 month temp contract with possible extensions.

Job Responsibility:

  • CAPEX & OPEX Analysis: Perform detailed project expenditure analysis to differentiate between Capital and Operating Expenditure, ensuring precise allocation to fixed assets within SAP using BCC standardized templates
  • Financial Reconciliation & Integrity: Conduct comprehensive reconciliations of capital project expenditures to ensure financial data accuracy and alignment with project budgets and reporting periods
  • Asset Lifecycle Management: Manage the end-to-end creation of new assets, including the meticulous maintenance and updating of all related asset attributes to ensure a clean and accurate Fixed Asset Register
  • AUC Capitalization Strategy: Execute the capitalization of Assets under Construction (AUC) for major projects, facilitating the transition from 'work-in-progress' to 'active assets' in accordance with BCC principles
  • Cross-Functional Stakeholder Liaison: Partner with business and delivery areas to ascertain final capitalization values and provide expert guidance on the appropriate accounting treatment of project costs
  • Audit Compliance & Quality Assurance: Develop and maintain audit-quality workpapers utilizing BCC standard templates, ensuring all documentation meets rigorous internal and external compliance standards

Requirements:

  • Experience in asset capitalisation, disposals across multiple asset classes
  • CPA/CA Qualification or working towards it, and relevant tertiary degree
  • Experience in large, complex organisations, ideally in Local Government or public sector
  • Experience working with large ERP systems
  • Experience with infrastructure assets
