Job Description

Assembly Manager leads a cross-functional team of exceptional skilled trades professionals in the execution of complex, custom automation projects within a fast-paced, project-based manufacturing environment. This role is accountable for ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget, while driving team performance, operational discipline, and continuous improvement across assembly operations. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring active presence on the production floor, strong engagement with project teams, and ownership of both people and project outcomes.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead and inspire a multi-layer team structure, guiding group leaders and skilled trades teams to successfully execute complex automation builds
  • Drive project execution excellence, ensuring all assembly activities align to defined schedules, resource plans, and budget targets
  • Own delivery performance, ensuring projects meet critical KPIs including budget adherence and schedule commitments
  • Partner with Project Managers and cross-functional stakeholders to plan, prioritize, and execute assembly activities across multiple projects
  • Champion a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement
  • Maintain a strong floor presence, actively supporting teams during build, integration, and debug phases
  • Lead build planning and execution, ensuring group leaders have clear direction
  • Ensure high-quality standards by proactively identifying design or manufacturing issues
  • Drive safe and efficient operations, embedding health & safety as a daily leadership behavior
  • Oversee resource planning and workload balancing
  • Provide clear and consistent performance feedback, coaching, and development
  • Act as a central point of coordination across departments
  • Support successful system integration, debug, and customer acceptance
  • Lead installation and commissioning readiness
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Track and manage project schedules, build plans, and resource allocation
  • Collaborate with group leaders to develop, maintain, and adjust build plans

Requirements

  • Combination of technical diploma, trade certification, or equivalent experience considered
  • A Certificate of Qualification as an Electrician, Machinist or Tool and Die Maker is an asset
  • Minimum 5+ years of supervisory experience in manufacturing, production, or technical environments
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in automation or manufacturing
  • Experience leading skilled trades teams in a project-based environment strongly preferred
  • Previous experience organizing and leading skilled trades to assemble and deliver industrial equipment or automation preferred

Nice to have

  • A Certificate of Qualification as an Electrician, Machinist or Tool and Die Maker
