The Arts Center Business Manager performs box office and business operations functions for all events held within the Arts Center to ensure a productive and safe environment for performers, students, staff, and community members. Reporting directly to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and working in conjunction with the Charter Schools Office, this position manages the day-to-day operations of the Arts Center and works as a liaison to the Charter Schools Office to develop Arts programming connections for K-12 schools. This position assumes all other Front of House duties and works in collaboration with the Arts Center Director, the Technical and Production Manager, and the Charter Schools Executive Director. The Business Manager will operate in a supervisory capacity to oversee a student workforce.
Job Responsibility:
Manages the box office, including event sales and account management, using an electronic ticketing system
Manages scheduling for all events in the Arts Center and gallery, including events, exhibits, residencies and performances
Makes decisions to increase revenue and foster interest in the arts for university, K-12 students, and the community
Compiles reports on ticket sales, budgets, attendance, and other operations and assists in compliance record-keeping
Securely handles all transactions and manages deposits, payments, and petty cash
Initiates, tracks, and manages the contract process from start to finish for all events
Reviews, approves, and manages all hospitality requirements on behalf of a contract for performers
Provides excellent customer service to patrons, students, faculty, staff, and performers
Creates and distributes marketing and public relations materials for events
Works in conjunction with K-12 schools to advertise, issue tickets, arrange transportation, arrange hospitality, and ensure participation in events and performances
Provides supplementary information to K-12 and university teachers on how events, exhibits, and performances can be used to enhance classroom materials and content coverage to facilitate academic connections
Organizes arts-focused professional development for university faculty and staff and K-12 teachers
Organizes and helps to grow summer arts opportunities for K-12 students and charter schools
Monitors the Arts Center for safety and cleanliness, and ensures accommodations and accessibility for patrons
Leads a student and volunteer staff, providing them with an educational experience to learn and grow within the Arts Center
Orchestrates grant development and grant writing for increased programming
Provides administrative assistance to the Dean, Arts Center Director, and the Charter Schools Executive Director
Requirements:
College Degree
Excellent written and oral communication and customer service skills
Strong computer skills, proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel
Aptitude for creative problem solving
Ability to work independently and as a team
Exceptional organizational and administrative skills
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries and work with diverse groups of patrons, performers, students, faculty, and staff
Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
Use of both fine and gross motor skills
Ability to see, hear and speak clearly, with or without the use of aids
Willingness to work weekends and evenings and to maintain a flexible schedule
