As an Area Manager, you will serve as a hands-on leader, ensuring the safe, on-time delivery of high-quality products to both internal and external customers. In this role, you will drive continuous improvement in processes, operational effectiveness, and efficiency across your area of responsibility. You will proactively identify opportunities for enhancement and lead initiatives that elevate overall performance. You will build and maintain a strong partnership with our sister facility in Berlin, Germany, to exchange best practices and align on operational excellence. In collaboration with Production and Development Engineers, you will play a key role in the adoption and industrialization of new products and processes. Job Responsibility
Lead manufacturing operations within the BCELL area, which includes several advanced optical production processes: Bonding, Contacting, Etching, Lithography, Laser Processing
Manage these processes across multiple shifts in a 24/7 production environment to meet or exceed key performance indicators: Safety, Quality, First Pass Yield, On-Time Delivery, Lead Time, Labor Productivity, and 5S
Enable direct reports (GLs) in production planning, scheduling, and execution in partnership with Business Planning
Manage operational and capital budgets to meet performance targets
Lead a layered organization of shift managers, team leads, and technicians
Build, coach, and develop leadership capabilities within direct reports
Drive employee engagement, inclusion, and team effectiveness
Own Health, Safety & Environment performance across BCELL, with factory-wide impact
Ensure compliance with ISO9001, ISO14001, and internal procedures
Drive Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives
Foster a culture of structured problem-solving, experimentation, and innovation
Translate sector strategy into operational plans with a 2–3 year horizon
Define and implement department KPIs aligned to strategic priorities
Build strong partnerships across Production Engineering, Supply Chain / Business Planning, Development & NPI teams, Sister factories
Provide clear operational insights, KPI performance tracking, and risk assessments
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree required (Engineering or related field preferred) 10–15 years in manufacturing operations, preferably high-mix, technical environments
Master’s Degree (Engineering or related field preferred) 5-10 years in manufacturing operations, preferably high-mix, technical environments
Proven experience leading leaders in a complex, multi-shift production environment
Strong Lean/Continuous Improvement background with demonstrated results
Experience in optics manufacturing, coating, or metrology preferred
Knowledge of ERP systems (SAP preferred) and manufacturing systems
Experience working in ISO-certified environments
Limited experience of planning, managing and organizing resources within short to medium timescales within the overall policy framework
