We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Architectural Technician to join our small, friendly practice. Working closely with the Architect Director, you will play a key role in transforming design concepts into detailed technical drawings from planning through to construction. Our projects are predominantly focused on period property renovations and restorations, alongside a selection of high-quality new build residential schemes. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a passion for traditional architecture, conservation principles, and technical excellence.
Job Responsibility
Develop initial design concepts provided by the Architect Director into drawings suitable for planning applications
Convert approved planning drawings into comprehensive technical working drawing packages
Produce detailed construction drawings and technical details at all scales
Prepare joinery, masonry, and bespoke construction details for planning and construction purposes
Compile tender packages including schedules, specifications, and supporting documentation
Prepare Building Regulations notes and assist in coordinating project delivery
Attend site visits, contractor meetings, and client meetings as required
Liaise with contractors, consultants, and clients to ensure projects are delivered accurately and in line with the design vision
Support the management of project programmes, budgets, and timelines
Maintain accurate timesheets and assist with project invoicing information where necessary
Continuously expand knowledge of construction methods, materials, and detailing
Keep up to date with changes in Building Regulations and Planning legislation
Develop an understanding of historic country houses, traditional architecture, and vernacular design principles
Apply conservation best practices and utilise resources such as Historic England, SPAB, and other relevant conservation bodies throughout the design process
Provide support to colleagues and contribute positively to the wider office environment
Undertake other reasonable duties as requested by the Directors
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Architectural Technology, or a related discipline
alternatively, a minimum of three years’ practical experience within an architectural practice
Experience producing planning, technical, and construction drawing packages
Strong understanding of construction detailing and building technology
Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently while meeting project deadlines
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Friendly, professional, and approachable manner
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Strong working knowledge of Vectorworks
Competent in Adobe Photoshop
Nice to have
Experience working on listed buildings, heritage projects, or period property renovations
Knowledge of conservation principles and traditional construction methods
Familiarity with UK Building Regulations and Planning processes
