Job Description:

Wood Rodgers, a leading engineering consulting firm, is seeking a motivated and career driven professional archaeologist to join our in-house environmental services team. This is a staffed, hourly, non-exempt position.

Job Responsibility:

  • Conduct literature research and cultural record searches
  • Coordinate Native American consultation (AB52 and Section 106)
  • Complete archaeological pedestrian surveys
  • Conduct archaeological excavation (testing and data recovery)
  • Write cultural technical reports and environmental documentation
  • Work with other disciplines within the company, clients, regulatory authorities and subconsultants, in-person and with video/teleconference meetings
  • Coordinate with federal agencies to secure SHPO concurrence on Section 106 documentation
  • Assist with the developing and implementing mitigation and monitoring reporting programs
  • Provide peer and QA/QC review of technical studies and environmental documents
  • Overall transportation planning NEPA/CEQA compliance
  • Help in the preparation of proposals in response to client requests

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related field and completion of an accredited archaeological field school
  • master’s degree in a related discipline required
  • 3–10 years of professional archaeological field experience, preferably in California
  • Working knowledge of federal and California environmental and cultural resource regulations, including Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, NEPA, and CEQA
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare clear, accurate documentation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively while managing multiple projects and critical deadlines
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and effective at time management
  • Ability to perform fieldwork in varied and sometimes challenging environments, including extreme temperatures, inclement weather, uneven terrain, and remote locations
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
  • Minimum of three years of professional archaeological experience and a demonstrated record of successfully completing more than ten projects involving archaeological surveys and/or excavations, including authorship of the resulting technical documentation
  • Experience with Phase 1.5 testing, Phase II archaeological investigations, and Phase III data recovery
  • Direct experience preparing archaeological documentation in compliance with CEQA and working with federal agencies such as Caltrans (FHWA), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Bureau of Reclamation, or other relevant federal entities
