Perform journey-level skilled mechanical maintenance tasks in the swimming pool, spa and building facilities on a regular and continuing basis. Perform a variety of skilled tasks in the building and pool maintenance, alteration and repair of the UCSD Aquatics facilities, UCSD Recreation Facilities, and their related equipment.
Job Responsibility:
Perform journey-level skilled mechanical maintenance tasks in the swimming pool, spa and building facilities on a regular and continuing basis
Perform a variety of skilled tasks in the building and pool maintenance, alteration and repair of the UCSD Aquatics facilities, UCSD Recreation Facilities, and their related equipment
Maintains and performs designated repairs of aquatic facilities and other buildings, including but not limited to pumps, motors, controllers, chemical feeders & tanks, HVAC, electrical, lighting, plumbing, high temperature, medium temperature and mechanical systems
Operates various computer applications for the above said systems
Occasionally alters systems to achieve optimum results
Maintains and repairs mechanical and plumbing systems and components
Upon approval, occasionally alters utility runs and modifies mechanical and plumbing components
Assists other staff
Provides work direction to student maintenance employees as needed
Requirements:
Perform journey-level skilled mechanical maintenance tasks in the commercial aquatic facility industry such as swimming pools, spas, their related systems and other building facilities
Demonstrated knowledge of construction, repair and maintenance needs for an aquatics facility
Demonstrated knowledge of standard HTHW, HVAC, heating, refrigeration, electrical and plumbing systems
Demonstrated knowledge of California State Public Health Department and EH&S requirements as they apply to swimming pools and spas
Demonstrated knowledge of operation, modification and repair of pool and spa systems including hydronic systems, pump operation, repairs and maintenance, pump curves and calculating heat loss
Demonstrated knowledge of water chemistry and balance such as Langlier Saturation Index and Ryzner Saturation Index
Demonstrated knowledge of filtration systems, chemical feeders and flow meters including properties and methods associated with sodium hypochlorite, muriatic acid, CO2, sodium thiosulfate, sodium bicarbonate and calcium chloride
Demonstrated ability to comprehend technical manuals and blueprints
Technical and specific knowledge of equipment associated with an operating system for HTHW-heated/solar-heated/gas-heated pool
Demonstrated knowledge of automated computer control systems in the Aquatic Industry
Demonstrated skill to prioritize work assignments to meet established deadlines and needs of the facilities
Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate with faculty, staff, students and the general public in a professional manner
Demonstrated ability and knowledge to use PC and Window applications
Demonstrated knowledge of pool cleaning tools and equipment, and appropriate use of same, including automatic remote controlled pool vacuums
General knowledge of water safety guidelines
Must have current Aquatics Facility Operator certification or be willing to obtain certification within one (1) year of hire date
Nice to have:
Demonstrated knowledge of building codes, rules and regulations, particularly as they apply to UC San Diego
Knowledge to help operate, repair and assist when testing the fire alarm & other emergency systems within a normal facility environment
Possess an AFO (Aquatic Facility Operator) or CPO (Certified Pool Operator) certification
Monitor energy and chemical usage, and help modify as needed
