An FX Intra-day Risk Development Manager (SVP) is responsible for the hands-on design, architecture, and implementation of a single Front Office FX Risk platform used by traders globally, while driving the decommissioning of legacy systems. The role demands a technically deep, hands-on engineering leader with strong Java expertise and system design skills, responsible for building and maintaining intraday risk and PnL capabilities while managing a team of 20+ engineers globally. The platform unification will eliminate discrepancies across trading units and, by upgrading the technology infrastructure with advanced analytics and real-time capabilities, will significantly improve performance and enable more proactive risk assessment.
Job Responsibility:
Manage multiple global teams of engineers to accomplish established goals and conduct personnel duties for team (e.g. performance evaluations, hiring and disciplinary actions)
Actively participate in hands-on development, including writing, reviewing, and architecting production-grade Java code for high-performance, low-latency intraday risk and PnL systems
Lead technical design and architecture decisions for the unified FX Risk platform, including system decomposition, data flow design, API contracts, and integration patterns
Drive technical excellence by establishing coding standards, conducting design reviews, and enforcing best practices across distributed engineering teams
Provide strategic influence and exercise control over resources, budget management and planning while monitoring end results
Utilize in-depth knowledge of concepts and procedures within own area and basic knowledge of other areas to resolve complex technical and business issues
Ensure essential procedures are followed and contribute to defining engineering and architectural standards
Integrate in-depth knowledge of applications development with the overall technology function to achieve established goals
Evaluate and guide technical trade-offs in complicated, unique, and dynamic situations, drawing from internal and external sources
Influence and negotiate with senior leaders across functions, as well as communicate with external parties as necessary
Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards
Requirements:
10+ years of relevant experience in software engineering, with significant hands-on development experience in Java-based, high-performance, distributed systems
Strong hands-on Java proficiency— including core Java (JVM internals, concurrency, memory management), modern Java frameworks (Spring Boot, Hibernate), and experience building low-latency, high-throughput applications
Proven technical design and architecture skills— including experience designing large-scale distributed systems, microservices architectures, event-driven platforms, and real-time data pipelines (e.g., Kafka, FIX protocol, in-memory grids)
Hands-on experience in financial systems, preferably in FX, rates, or broader capital markets risk and PnL platforms
Demonstrated ability to remain hands-on as a technical leader— capable of diving into code, debugging production issues, and driving architectural decisions alongside the team
Experience in managing and mentoring global technology teams of 20+ engineers across multiple time zones
Experience in legacy system decommissioning and platform modernization/migration programs
Working knowledge of industry practices and standards in financial technology
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, cloud-native technologies, and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes)
Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication
