Job Responsibility:
Assisting with the servicing, repair, and maintenance of fleet vehicles and plant
Learning to diagnose faults using modern diagnostic tools
Supporting routine inspections and safety checks
Completing day-to-day workshop tasks under supervision
Working safely and following all Ringway standards and procedures
Attending apprenticeship training as part of your qualification
Requirements:
A genuine interest in vehicle mechanics or engineering

Basic problem-solving skills
GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths & English
Basic Mechanical Skills: An understanding of how vehicle systems operate, including engines, brakes, suspension, and electrical components
Tool Handling Ability: Confidence using hand tools, power tools, and workshop equipment safely under supervision
Diagnostic Awareness: Interest or early familiarity with electronic diagnostic tools, fault codes, and step-by-step fault-finding procedures
Vehicle Maintenance Knowledge: Ability to support routine inspections, servicing tasks, and basic component replacements
Workshop Equipment Use: Willingness to learn how to safely operate lifts, jacks, tyre changers, and other workshop machinery
Precision & Measurement: Ability to work accurately with torque settings, gauges, and measurement tools to ensure safe and correct repairs
Fleet & Plant Interest: Motivation to learn how to maintain specialist vehicles and equipment such as gritters, sweepers, hydraulic systems, and small plant
Technical Documentation: Ability to complete simple job sheets, inspection records, and follow written instructions or technical diagrams
Willingness to Learn: Demonstrates enthusiasm for developing mechanical skills and completing apprenticeship training
Basic Mechanical Understanding: Shows interest or foundational knowledge of how vehicles and their systems work
Practical Problem-Solving: Able to follow logical steps when identifying simple vehicle issues
