SP Industries Inc. is expanding our team in Vineland, NJ and have an immediate opening for an Appretice - Tooling. In this role, the right candidate will learn and assist in performing duties related to the tooling of pyrex, quartz, and other types of glass parts. This apprenticeship role provides hands-on training to develop the skills needed to set up, maintain, and produce high-quality glass tooling components in accordance with customer and company specifications. The role emphasizes safety, precision, and adherence to quality and production standards while providing structured support and guidance from experienced Tool Workers.
Job Responsibility
Assist in the tooling of glass parts using hand tools, holders, hand rollers, and related equipment under supervision
Support the setup and maintenance of fires, tools, and equipment while learning proper procedures
Learn to select materials and tooling to produce parts according to drawings and specifications
Read and interpret technical drawings and specifications with guidance
Use measuring instruments to verify parts meet quality standards under supervision
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
Report out-of-standard conditions or needs for tooling, materials, or supplies to supervisors
Help maintain records and complete required documentation
Follow environmental, health, and safety rules, including proper PPE usage, under guidance
Learn to follow quality and production standards and verify work according to standards
Report unsafe conditions, spills, or incidents immediately to a supervisor
Requirements
Strong mechanical aptitude and eagerness to learn hands-on glass tooling skills
Prior experience or exposure to tooling, glass blowing, or glass production processes is preferred
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
Familiarity with hand tools, measuring instruments, and general production equipment preferred but not required
Attention to detail and commitment to quality standards
Dependable, motivated, and capable of learning under supervision
Willingness to follow all safety procedures and participate actively in safety programs
Currently enrolled in, or recent graduate of, a technical, vocational, or college program related to Scientific Glassblowing
Nice to have
Prior experience or exposure to tooling, glass blowing, or glass production processes
Familiarity with hand tools, measuring instruments, and general production equipment
