The Wellesley Municipal Light Plant (WMLP) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Apprentice Lineworker. Under the supervision of the Line Supervisor, the Apprentice Lineworker works as part of a line crew to assist in the construction, maintenance, and repair of the overhead and underground electrical distribution system.
Job Responsibility:
Assisting with line construction projects
Operating utility vehicles and equipment
Stocking trucks
Setting poles
Streetlight maintenance
Supporting emergency restoration efforts during storms and outages
Working outdoors in all weather conditions
Participating in standby and emergency response assignments
Progressively developing technical knowledge and hands-on skills related to electric utility distribution work while participating in an approved Apprentice Lineworker training program
Requirements:
Valid Massachusetts Class B Commercial Driver's License with airbrake endorsement
Valid Massachusetts Hoisting Engineer License 1B
Participation in an electric utility lineworker training or cross-training program
Ability to safely operate tools, equipment, and utility vehicles commonly used in line operations
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Commitment to safety
Ability to perform physically demanding work including climbing poles, lifting heavy materials, and operating specialized utility equipment

Nice to have:
Experience working for an electric or municipal utility
Enrollment in or completion of the National Grid or NEPPA 1st Class Lineworker Training Program
Familiarity with overhead and underground electrical distribution systems, utility equipment, and applicable electrical safety codes
