Job Description:

The Wellesley Municipal Light Plant (WMLP) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Apprentice Lineworker. Under the supervision of the Line Supervisor, the Apprentice Lineworker works as part of a line crew to assist in the construction, maintenance, and repair of the overhead and underground electrical distribution system.

Job Responsibility:

  • Assisting with line construction projects
  • Operating utility vehicles and equipment
  • Stocking trucks
  • Setting poles
  • Streetlight maintenance
  • Supporting emergency restoration efforts during storms and outages
  • Working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Participating in standby and emergency response assignments
  • Progressively developing technical knowledge and hands-on skills related to electric utility distribution work while participating in an approved Apprentice Lineworker training program

Requirements:

  • Valid Massachusetts Class B Commercial Driver's License with airbrake endorsement
  • Valid Massachusetts Hoisting Engineer License 1B
  • Participation in an electric utility lineworker training or cross-training program
  • Ability to safely operate tools, equipment, and utility vehicles commonly used in line operations
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to safety
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work including climbing poles, lifting heavy materials, and operating specialized utility equipment
  • Dependable

  • Professional and courteous attitude when interacting with coworkers and customers

Nice to have:

  • Experience working for an electric or municipal utility
  • Enrollment in or completion of the National Grid or NEPPA 1st Class Lineworker Training Program
  • Familiarity with overhead and underground electrical distribution systems, utility equipment, and applicable electrical safety codes
