Job Description

The Appraisal Sr Manager accomplishes results through the management of professional team(s) and department(s). Integrates subject matter and industry expertise within a defined area. Contributes to standards around which others will operate. Requires in-depth understanding of how areas collectively integrate within the sub-function as well as coordinate and contribute to the objectives of the entire function. Requires basic commercial awareness. Developed communication and diplomacy skills are required in order to guide, influence and convince others, in particular colleagues in other areas and occasional external customers. Has responsibility for volume, quality, timeliness and delivery of end results of an area. May have responsibility for planning, budgeting and policy formulation within area of expertise. Involved in short-term planning resource planning. Full management responsibility of a team, which may include management of people, budget and planning, to include duties such as performance evaluation, compensation, hiring, disciplinary and terminations and may include budget approval. Oversees valuation risk taken in connection with real estate activities which includes extension of credit that are secured by liens on or interests in real estate, capital markets, servicing and default of any consumer loan undertaken when real estate security or real estate activity, or an asset sale, or a refinancing is contemplated as a first way out.

Job Responsibility

  • Incorporates subject matter expertise of appraisal regulations, policies, and investor guidelines in to daily decisions
  • Leads multiple teams of licensed/certified residential review appraisers performing appraisal reviews on residential properties for the mortgage process
  • Stays abreast of residential real estate market changes, drivers of change, and market outlook
  • Corresponds with senior quality personnel and chief appraisers at Appraisal Management Companies
  • Performs critical reviews of externally prepared appraisals of real estate
  • Resolves complex issues that are not compliant with Citibank policies or appraisal conclusions that are not reasonable
  • Establishes quality benchmarks with vendors
  • managing vendors to a quality product and maintaining satisfactory scorecard performance, including the oversight of action plans to correct deficiencies
  • Acts as the escalation point for supported businesses to address any concerns within the review process
  • Monitors reporting to ensure the process is working as intended, and promptly escalate any issues
  • Lead and oversee a small team of Junior Talent in project work and day to day deliverables
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made

Requirements

  • State Real Estate Appraiser Certification required
  • 5+ years of appraisal and appraisal review experience
  • Thorough understanding of appraisal regulations, appraisal standards and secondary market guidelines is required
  • Possess complex and diverse knowledge of financial services
  • Good diplomacy and influence skills are required

Nice to have

  • Minimum 2 years management experience preferred
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • knowledge of Citi is a plus
