Job Responsibility

  • Tests and implements system and application software installations and upgrades
  • Assists with planning and scheduling system and application software installations and upgrades
  • Maintains production change control schedule and participates in change management/control
  • Performs workstation and server administration
  • Assists with the design of backup and recovery procedures
  • Maintains and monitors backup schedules
  • Executes capacity monitoring processes
  • Coordinates disk space planning and management
  • Maintains growth statistics, space forecasts, tape libraries, and software and hardware inventories
  • Monitors continuity with system software licensing and maintenance agreements
  • Executes and monitors quality assurance processes
  • Conducts routine hardware and software audits of workstations and servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines
  • Participates on on-call rotation
  • Solves moderately complex application software problems and assists in resolving complex problems
  • Performs root-cause analysis on moderately complex problems and assists in root-cause problem analysis of complex problems
  • Escalates issues as needed
  • Defines, submits and works to completion problems and issues with vendors to improve functionality to meet business needs
  • Designs moderately complex application support software such as utility programs, macros, subroutines, and control modules from detailed specifications
  • Codes, tests, debugs, documents and maintains moderately complex application support software
  • Makes moderately complex modifications to purchased applications to fit specialized needs and configurations
  • Configures, installs and supports moderately complex clinical device or other ancillary device integration solutions
  • Creates tasks, work estimates and recommends resource assignments
  • Monitors tasks and initiates corrective action to stay on schedule
  • Communicates with project coordinators and clients in order to keep them informed with regard to project status and potential problem areas

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Computer Science or related field
  • Typically requires 3 years of experience in application development and support
  • Advanced knowledge of operating systems, databases, vendor-specific development languages or environments, and other system software
  • Advanced knowledge of hardware and software as used in the clinical and/or business setting
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the inter-relationships between application code and server operating systems and desktop operating systems
  • Demonstrated negotiation and facilitation skills and ability to explain technical subjects to non-technical clients
  • Demonstrated ability to translate user requirements into system specifications
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Strong problem and issue resolution skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, set appropriate priorities and accomplish assignments in a thorough and timely manner

  • The System Administrator III will work internal to the Cell Manipulation Core Facility to manage systems across the Cell Therapy (CT) Networks by implementation and validation of computer systems impacting the department and CT program. The System Administrator III works in conjunction with the project teams from Partners Healthcare System and CMCF technical staff as well as working with DFCI and Partners IS on enterprise systems such as Epic and Sunquest. Systems will include, but are not limited to Partners Order Entry System for Biological Products (BOE/BPAA), Eceptionist, Sunquest, REES Environmental Monitoring systems, Internal Server systems, CMCF FileMaker Databases, FreezerWorks Bio-Repository system selected MES, and other internal systems such as Microsoft Access and Filemaker databases
  • Demonstrates knowledge of CMCF, clinical and laboratory workflow to incorporate and propose design consideration for CMCF applications
