Job Description:

The Application Development Group Manager is a senior management level position responsible for accomplishing results through the management of a team or department in an effort to establish and implement new or revised application systems and programs in coordination with the Technology Team. The overall objective of this role is to drive applications systems analysis and programming activities. In this role, you will lead the design, development, and deployment of applications, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and provide technical leadership on LLMs, prompt engineering, model evaluation, and responsible AI practices.

Job Responsibility:

Lead the design and implementation of generative AI use cases, from ideation to production
Build and tune LLM-based applications using platforms like Vertex, GPT, Hugging Face, etc.
Create robust prompt engineering strategies and reusable prompt templates
Integrate generative AI with enterprise applications using APIs, knowledge graphs, vector databases (e.g., PG Vector, Pinecone, FAISS, Chroma), and orchestration tools
Collaborate with engineering, data science, and business teams to identify opportunities and build solutions
Ensure responsible AI practices, data privacy, security, and model evaluation processes are followed
Stay current on GenAI trends, frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex), and research
Mentor junior team members and promote a culture of experimentation and learning
Manage multiple teams of professionals to accomplish established goals and conduct personnel duties for team (e.g. performance evaluations, hiring and disciplinary actions)
Provide strategic influence and exercise control over resources, budget management and planning while monitoring end results
Utilize in-depth knowledge of concepts and procedures within own area and basic knowledge of other areas to resolve issues
Ensure essential procedures are followed and contribute to defining standards
Integrate in-depth knowledge of applications development with overall technology function to achieve established goals
Provide evaluative judgement based on analysis of facts in complicated, unique, and dynamic situations including drawing from internal and external sources
Influence and negotiate with senior leaders across functions, as well as communicate with external parties as necessary
Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards

Requirements:

10+ years of experience in software development, data science, or AI/ML roles
2+ years of hands-on experience specifically with generative AI or LLMs
Strong programming skills in Python, and familiarity with libraries like Transformers, LangChain, LlamaIndex, PyTorch, or TensorFlow
Experience building applications with OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, or open-source LLMs
Working knowledge of retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines and vector databases
Experience with Angular, MongoDB, Microservices, etc.
Understanding of MLOps, model evaluation, prompt tuning, and deployment pipelines
Strong communication skills and the ability to partner with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Experience in applications development and management of global technology teams
Working knowledge of industry practices and standards
Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication

Nice to have:

Experience with Angular, MongoDB, Microservices
Understanding of MLOps, model evaluation, prompt tuning, and deployment pipelines
