We’re looking for 2 new people to join the BBC’s Appeals Advisory Committee to replace members whose terms have ended. The committee helps the BBC’s Executive Committee manage risks arising from involvement in charitable appeals. The position is unpaid but reasonable expenses will be met. Term of 3 years with possible 3-year extension. Four full AAC meetings per year (3 hours each) and four sub-committee meetings per year (2 hours each), held in London with remote attendance facility.
Job Responsibility:
Advising on general policy matters on broadcast appeals
Scrutinising and selecting charities for regular broadcast appeal slots
Advising on risks relating to governance, finance and strategy of charities benefitting from major BBC appeals
Advising on best practice in fundraising and management of funds raised
Requirements:
Currently in an executive leadership role in a charity (CEO or Senior Director)
Demonstrable expertise in at least 2 of the following: social policy, finance, fundraising, grantmaking, legal issues, monitoring and evaluation
Awareness of the public service role of broadcast appeals
Commitment to accountability framework for donated money
Appreciation of the role of an advisory committee member
Nice to have:
Financial expertise
Specialist knowledge of environment and conservation charities
Generalist charity experience with interest in social welfare, homelessness and/or cultural fields
