Job Description:

This contract-to-permanent position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the financial operations of our organization, with a primary focus on accounts payable. The ideal candidate will bring strong organizational skills and a proactive approach to managing accounting processes in a dynamic environment.

Job Responsibility:

  • Manage and maintain a manual purchase order system in alignment with established procedures
  • Oversee a dedicated accounts payable ledger for construction invoices, ensuring timely processing and payment
  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams, vendors, volunteers, and financial institutions to streamline operations
  • Process invoices for payment, issue checks weekly, and monitor positive pay transactions
  • Collect corporate credit card receipts and accurately record charges in the accounts payable module
  • Assist with cash handling procedures alongside the Accounts Receivable Staff Accountant
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations and record payroll journal entries
  • Prepare and submit sales tax returns in compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Create and post month-end journal entries while reconciling balance sheets
  • Provide detailed schedules for interim and annual financial audits and support fundraising events as needed

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
  • Strong proficiency in bank reconciliations and general ledger management
  • Skilled in preparing journal entries and completing month-end close procedures
  • Familiarity with financial systems such as Financial Edge or similar platforms
  • Ability to work independently while meeting internal and external deadlines
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Competence in preparing concise reports and spreadsheets using Excel
  • Comfortable working in an animal-friendly environment
