The Analytical Technician – Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry provides analytical services and data interpretation in support of RD&I and other business groups across North America. This role focuses on chromatography and mass spectrometry, supporting research, product development, scale-up, and troubleshooting activities.
Job Responsibility:
Independently perform chromatography (LC, GC) and mass spec ( GCMS) analysis, including sample preparation
Interpret raw data and recognize good data from bad
Conduct method modification and small method development projects
Set up and maintain analytical instruments, including qualification and calibration
Run additional analytical measurements as needed (GPC, IC, IR, physical property testing)
Analyze root causes of problems and suggest corrective actions
Write reports requiring data interpretation and assembly of multiple analyses
Coordinate and perform daily laboratory functions with minimal guidance
Schedule instrument maintenance and calibration with vendors
Operate, adjust, and maintain analytical equipment
Maintain instruments including calibration, qualification, and preventive maintenance
Participate in shared lab responsibilities including inventory, purchasing, and ISO-related tasks
Write, revise, and review SOPs
Plan and prioritize activities to meet business objectives
Maintain an organized and safe lab environment
Support incident/near miss reporting and investigation
Manage chemical inventory and reconciliation
Support waste management and ISO 9001 quality processes
May serve as lab safety lead or participate on ISO committees
Manage timelines and lead medium projects
Respond to complex analytical questions and recommend additional experiments
Serve as a consultant to colleagues with analytical needs
Requirements:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related field with 3–8 years of analytical laboratory experience
High School diploma with 10+ years of relevant analytical experience
Strong hands-on experience with chromatography and mass spectrometry (GC, LC, GCMS, LCMS)
Experience with Agilent Openlab or Chemstation (GC and LC), or MassHunter (GCMS) is required
Experience with method development, modification, and verification
Ability to independently interpret analytical data and distinguish high-quality results
Working knowledge of laboratory safety standards and chemical handling procedures
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Collaborative mindset and ability to work with cross-functional technical teams
Nice to have:
Experience performing GPC is preferred
