Job Description:

In this role, you will be the integral leader of the Analytical Chemistry team who supports all R&D projects and production teams at ATC and our Partners. Laboratory Operations Management is accountable for scientific research or quality testing performed in a laboratory environment.

Job Responsibility:

  • Managing a team of laboratory staff and developing operating procedures to ensure that experiments and analyses are conducted within budgets and according to established scientific standards
  • Prioritizing and allocating laboratory operations and workflow so that the laboratory equipment and resources are used efficiently, and work schedules and targets are met
  • Researching, evaluating, and recommending investments in technology, equipment, systems of other assets that will enhance the laboratory’s performance
  • Managing the maintenance, repair, construction, quality, and installation of laboratory equipment
  • Ensure policies, practices, and procedures are understood and followed by direct reports, customers, and stakeholders
  • Gain knowledge about Alcoa EHS standards, protocols, and tools to ensure that safety protocols are followed accordingly
  • Adhere to strict quality control of analytical results

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or related scientific field. Master’s preferred
  • 5-10 years of analytical laboratory experience managing teams, projects, or operations
  • Demonstrated experience with: Method development and validation
  • Analytical instrumentation operation
  • Troubleshooting laboratory instruments and data issues
  • Managing a team in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to perform material handling, weighing, completing process steps in sequence, and documenting process data
  • Must have strong attention to detail and follow complex work plans/instructions to maintain workflow and quality integrity
  • Strong understanding of data integrity
  • Ability to interpret and communicate data for root cause analyses
  • Significant experience with XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence) & XRD (X-Ray Diffraction), ICP (Inductively Coupled Plasma), SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope), LECO (inert gas fusion), PSD (particle size distribution), and TGA (Materials characterization, thermal analysis), surface area analysis equipment and processes
  • Wear task specific PPE
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
