Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Consultant Anaesthetist to join a supportive and multidisciplinary medical team on the East Coast of New Zealand. In this role, you will work closely with the Head of Department and colleagues to provide high-quality anaesthetic services and ensure excellent peri-operative care for patients across a broad range of specialities.

Job Responsibility

  • Conducting pre-operative assessments
  • Providing anaesthesia for both elective and emergency surgeries
  • Participating in the peri-operative management of post-operative patients in ICU, HDU, and ward settings
  • Playing a vital role in the stabilisation and transfer of critically ill patients to tertiary centres when required
  • Providing out-of-hours anaesthesia services to maternity, critical care, theatres, and the emergency department
  • Contributing to pain management services
  • Taking part in the on-call roster
  • Participating in teaching and supervision of junior doctors and other clinical staff

Requirements

  • Vocational registration in Anaesthesia with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ), or eligibility for Provisional Vocational Registration
  • Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) preferred, though not essential for international applicants
  • Experience in paediatric anaesthesia and/or critical care is advantageous
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Commitment to providing care within a culturally safe framework and promoting equitable health outcomes

Nice to have

  • Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA)
  • Experience in paediatric anaesthesia and/or critical care
