Job Description:

Casual Allied Health Assistant Grade 3. Primary work allocation includes specialist medicine, oncology, palliative care, home enteral nutrition, bariatric surgery outpatients and administration tasks. Main location is Austin Hospital in Heidelberg and Heidelberg Repatriation Centre in Heidelberg. The Allied Health Assistant (AHA) plays an integral role in supporting the Dietitians across both the inpatient and outpatient care settings.

Job Responsibility:

  • Support the Dietitians across both the inpatient and outpatient care settings
  • Support the Oncology, Specialist Medicine, Bariatric Surgery Outpatient and Home Enteral Nutrition teams
  • Undertake nutrition screening
  • Implement low risk interventions
  • Monitor nutrition interventions
  • Assist with discharge planning and education
  • Assist the coordination of the dietetic service including booking outpatient appointments both pre and post-operatively
  • Send appointment reminders
  • Maintain patient database
  • Draft and send discharge summaries
  • Support the dietitian by communicating with patients, booking review appointments and assisting with equipment management

Requirements:

  • Be able to follow documented processes and escalate concerns to a stream leader based on risk profiles
  • Show initiative and an ability to work autonomously
  • Demonstrate exceptional attention to detail
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Be dynamic, flexible and organised
  • Be competent working with different IT systems and spreadsheets
  • Hold a Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance (Nutrition and Dietetics) or be working towards an Undergraduate or Postgraduate Degree in Nutrition (desirable)
  • Available to work on Fridays (desirable)
