Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering, technical, and professional services serving the US government, allies, and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking an Airlift Joint Inspector / Air Cargo Lead to support a unique US Navy program based on the island of Diego Garcia. The Air Cargo Lead will oversee and perform joint inspection services for cargo operations to ensure compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) regulations and standards, and that deployment and redeployment of cargo are conducted safely and efficiently.
Job Responsibility
Perform cargo joint inspection services to ensure all deployment, redeployment, and exercise cargo are inspected and compliant with required procedures, regulations, and safety standards
Conduct joint inspections of aircraft loads with a qualified representative from the deploying unit’s movement officer/representative in accordance with DoD 4500.9R, Part III, Mobility, Appendix O
Verify that all cargo is movement-ready before aircraft loading, ensuring proper packaging, bracing, and restraint procedures are followed
Inspect cargo for compliance with safety directives and certification requirements, ensuring proper distribution of load weight for efficient and safe aircraft operations
Complete all cargo joint inspections within six hours to maintain overall operational readiness and meet mission-critical timelines
Maintain detailed documentation on all inspected cargo, including records and reports required for regulatory compliance
Prepare load plans in coordination with loadmasters, aircrews, and deployment/redeployment representatives to ensure effective handling and placement of cargo
Assist in the loading and unloading of cargo as needed, utilizing material handling equipment (MHE) and ground support tools
Coordinate with all stakeholders, including deploying units and aircrews, to resolve discrepancies and ensure seamless cargo movement operations
Supervise and train air cargo team members, ensuring the timely and accurate execution of cargo preparation, transportation, and inspection processes
Adhere to established safety protocols and procedures at all times
Requirements
3-5 years of experience in cargo operations, logistics, and inspections in a military, government, or industrial setting, including prior leadership or supervisory experience
High school diploma or equivalent
Comprehensive knowledge of cargo inspection for airlift operations, including DoD regulations, such as DoD 4500.9R, Part III, Mobility, Appendix O
Trained and qualified as a Joint Inspector, with documented evidence of formal training
Knowledge and experience in cargo preparation techniques, including packaging, bracing, and load balancing
Ability to operate Material Handling Equipment (MHE) and various ground support tools
Strong understanding of aircraft cargo handling and load planning requirements, including safety and security procedures
Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills to resolve cargo discrepancies and ensure safe operations
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and ensure timely completion
Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to travel internationally
Passport should be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring
Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain requirements for the duration of deployment
Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization
Nice to have
Prior experience in an austere OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environment with a multi-national workforce is preferred
Valid country driver’s license and passport
Country visa (as required in line with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide)
Prior experience as an Aircraft Loadmaster or similar role related to military or cargo air transportation
Experience in Air Mobility Command (AMC) operations or government-controlled air cargo environments
Advanced certifications in air cargo transportation or logistics services
Familiarity with hazardous material (HAZMAT) regulations and guidelines for the safe transport of sensitive or dangerous goods for airlift
Strong leadership and training skills, with a track record of leading teams in air cargo operations
