Job Description

The Aircraft Mechanic III (LUH-72) A&P performs maintenance on helicopters, excluding repair of systems according to drawings, blueprints, directives, technical manuals and safety procedures.

Job Responsibility

  • Removes and installs aircraft subsystem assemblies such as engines, rotors, gearboxes, transmissions, mechanical flight controls and their components
  • Services and lubricates aircraft and subsystems
  • Prepare aircraft for inspections and maintenance checks
  • Performs scheduled inspections and assists in performing special inspections
  • Performs limited maintenance operational checks and assists in diagnosing and troubleshooting aircraft subsystems using special tools and equipment as required
  • Uses and performs operator maintenance on tools, special tools and aircraft ground support equipment
  • Prepare forms and records related to aircraft maintenance
  • Removes and disassembles defective parts of the aircraft
  • Maintains the supplies and perform preventive maintenance
  • Performs additional duties, including maintenance duties, as requested
  • Adheres to company policies and safety programs (Safety-first mentality)
  • The incumbent receives technical guidance, as required, from supervisor or higher-level technician, will occasionally be required to lead teams through more complex aircraft relevant tasks, and may be required to make entries in aircraft logs and records

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required
  • U.S. military technical school or specialized training course is desired
  • certification of education level is required
  • Must have five years aviation maintenance experience
  • five years rotary wing aircraft experience
  • two years assigned to the MDS
  • All experience must be within the ten most recent years
  • Valid up-to-date A&P license
  • Must provide own tools/toolbox
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Must be able to travel for LUH TDY assignments upon mission assignments
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI(T1) Public Trust Security Clearance
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization
  • US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization to work at this facility
  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft systems on the assigned MDS
  • Advanced knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, hydraulic press machine, and those listed in the assigned MDS Maintenance Allocation Chart (MAC)
  • Working knowledge of technical publications and Logistics Information Systems
  • Able to prioritize workloads to maintain schedules on assigned projects
  • Possess the level of experience to inspect all required aeronautical type maintenance to be performed by aircraft mechanic
  • Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for extended periods throughout the day
  • Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands
  • Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders
  • May be required to lift/push/pull heavy objects whose weight may exceed 50 pounds
  • Must be able to type using a standard keyboard to communicate through e-mail and various software applications
  • Will handle dirty parts and lubricants
  • Will be required to wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Must be able to pass a Respirator Physical and Fit Test qualification
  • May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, forklift, etc.
  • May work in maintenance shop or outside
  • Must be able to work in a shop where the environment is drafty, noisy, and dirty
  • May be exposed to extreme noise from operating equipment
  • May be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts or vehicles
  • May be expected to work in austere environments and all-weather conditions
