The Aircraft Structural Mechanic is responsible for assessing aircraft damage and draft repair procedures to aircraft structural and composite components. Must be able to utilize advanced metalworking practices and techniques to form, cut, bend, and fasten new / repair components to damaged structures. Must be proficient in close tolerance drilling/reaming for installation of high-strength fasteners. Able to use powered / non-powered metalworking tooling and equipment.
Job Responsibility:
Inspect / assess damage to aircraft structural components and formulate proper repair/replacement procedures
Remove and install close tolerance, high-strength fasteners in major aircraft structural components
Advises on structural repair, modification, and corrosion protection treatment
Performs post repair flight control weight and balance functions as well as control surface rigging
Inspect components/repairs for structural serviceability
Manufactures / use jigs, fixtures, forms, and molds to fabricate repair or replacement parts
Uses advanced metalworking practices, equipment, and tools to form, cut, bend, and fasten replacement or repair parts
Uses shop drawing and metal layout techniques
Closes completed maintenance discrepancies in automated maintenance systems
Document maintenance as per Quality Assurance (QA) and established regulatory requirements
Stores, handles, and disposes of hazardous waste and materials
Operates and maintains related aircraft Support Equipment (SE)
Use automated maintenance systems to monitor maintenance trends
Perform regular Foreign Object Damage (FOD) walks
Maintain strict tool control procedures
Comply with safety rules and regulations
Maintain equipment records
Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent
5+ years of relevant aircraft depot level structural maintenance experience with fixed / rotary wing commercial, Government or DOD aircraft
Experience supporting DoD contracts
Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within depot level maintenance
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance
Skilled in depot level processes and procedures for replacement of major structural components
Ability to read and interpret documents such as engineering drawings, technical documentation, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Intermediate computer skills specifically using Microsoft Office Suite
Knowledgeable of fixed wing aircraft construction features, identification and characteristics of aerospace materials
Knowledgeable in depot fabrication / repair / replacement of metal components, tubing, cable, plastic, fiberglass, bonded honeycomb, and composite structural components
Must be able to utilize respirator, forced air, or other breathing equipment during the performance of assigned duties
